Michael Barker, Founder & President

Michael’s technical experience began at an early age — writing his first line of code as a 6 year-old. His interest in computers and technology only grew from there. On his family farm in North Alabama, he started his first business before he was even a teenager — selling minnows raised in his family pond to local fishermen starting at “50 cents a dozen.”

Michael earned a B.S. in Quantitative Finance with Minor Studies in Economics and Computer Science from The University of Alabama. After college, he worked as an auditor at a large private company with operations in Nashville, TN — a role that led him to the acquisitions team. Later he spent several years in Strategic Sourcing at a large public company in Birmingham, AL. His skills with technology were indispensable in allowing him to excel in these roles.

Michael met his future wife in Birmingham, and they later moved to Denver, CO. In early 2015, Michael combined his passion for data and technology with his entrepreneurial spirit to launch Workspace Solutions from his home in Denver.  Later that year, he moved himself and the company to their permanent location in Charlotte, NC.

Michael spends his spare time with his family and dogs, and he enjoys adventure, snow skiing, scuba diving, live music, and travel.

Daniel Pettey, Director of Sales and Marketing Services

Daniel learned the value of hard work and providing a quality product at an early age — as a 12 year-old bus boy at his father’s restaurant. Britt’s Steakhouse was unique at the time. It boasted the only dry-aged steaks in the area. A lifetime love for sports later afforded Daniel an opportunity to be the sports columnist for his college newspaper.

Daniel earned a B.A. in Public Relations from The University of Alabama. Following graduation, he spent ten years at the Department of Veterans Affairs as a patient advocate and manager. During this time, Daniel refined his skills in customer service and leadership that have proven integral in his role at Workspace Solutions.

Following his work in the government sector, Daniel worked as a Project Manager and Salesperson for a private, Alabama based construction materials manufacturer and wholesaler. He joined Workspace Solutions in 2020, and soon moved to Tampa, FL where he currently resides. He has since leveraged his sales, customer service, and P.R. background to become the leader of our client services team.

Daniel is customer focused and passionate about helping our clients reach their goals. He is an integral part of each client’s journey, so you will likely know him personally when you partner with us.

Outside of work, Daniel enjoys spending time with his family on the local beaches, cooking, snow skiing, live music, riding roller coasters, and exploring new places.

Sarah Shaw, Content Manager

Sarah earned a B.A. in English and Technical Writing from Winthrop University and went on to earn an M.B.A. from the same university. After college, she returned to her hometown of Fort Mill, SC — working as a registered representative and then a financial advisor.

Sarah is a Certified Financial Planner® and she previously held several FINRA licenses including Series 7, Series 63, and Series 65 in addition to insurance and mortgage licenses. She joined Workspace Solutions in 2021 as a part-time content writer focusing on clients in the financial services sector. Since then, Sarah has grown into her current role as Content Manager.

Sarah continues to gain writing experience in areas other than personal finance, like economics, banking, interest rates, local business services, medical practitioners, marketing services, and even home improvement.

When Sarah isn’t writing, she enjoys needlework, spending time with family, and teaching tennis to local youths.
